• October 13, 2011 Tenth Annual WAI Southeast Chapter Golf Tournament was held at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, NC. This year’s tournament was held in the memory of the founding President of the Southeast Chapter Steven Vannais and the proceeds will be directed to an educational scholarship for his son, Eric.
Southeast Chapter President Killed in Plane Crash
The president of the Southeast Chapter, Steve Vannais, was killed in a plane accident on January 5, 2011. Donations may be made in his memory to the Eric R. Vannais Scholarship Fund and sent to Wachovia Bank, Mooresville Plaza, 552 E. Plaza Drive, Mooresville, NC 28115.
Southeast Chapter Scholarship Winners 2011
The Southeast Chapter and The Wire Foundation are pleased to announce three scholarship recipients. The program, which began in 2008, has now awarded 10 scholarships. The first winner is William Hammontree, who graduated from Seffner Christian Academy and will be attending Florida College to study business and engineering. William is the son of Joe Hammontree, vice president of Temple Terrance Industries.
The next two winners are twin daughters of David Hutcheson, plant manager copper rod mill with Southwire Company in Carrollton, GA. Rebecca Hutcheson graduated from Carrrollton High School in Carrollton, GA and will be attending Mercer University as a pre-med biology major. Melissa Hutcheson also graduated from Carrrollton High School in Carrollton, GA and will be attending Agnes Scott College in the fall.
Scholarship Committee Announces Two Awards for 2010
The Southeast Chapter awarded two scholarships in September 2010, marking the third year of the program. The first winner was Andrew Mailloux, a junior at Georgia State University, and the son of Bob Mailloux, sales manager, for JJ Lowe Associates. The second winner was Eric Vannais, a student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the son of the deceased Steve Vannais.
• October 14, 2010 - Ninth Annual WAI Southeast Chapter Golf Tournament will be held at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, NC and continues to be a spectacular setting for the Chapter's tourney! Billed as the place where they took heaven and put 36 holes in the middle of it, the course was the host of the 2008 PGA Champions Tour Greater Hickory Classic. 2008 Southeast Chapter Scholarship Winners
The WAI Southeast Chapter introduced its scholarship program this year with a slight twist by allowing students currently enrolled in college to also apply for the awards. As a result, Chapter President Steve Vannais of Davis-Standard Corp is pleased to announce one graduating high school senior and one college senior as its award recipients: Adrian Duval and Katie Mailloux, respectively.
Ms Duval is the daughter of Venus Wire Industries Ltd marketing director Paul Duval. She is graduating from Stafford High School in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, and will be attending Central Connecticut State University in the fall.
Ms Mailloux is entering her final year in pursuit of her degree in Social Work at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. She is the daughter of Robert Mailloux, sales manager for J J Lowe Associates, Inc.
• August 23, 2007 - Sixth Annual WAI Southeast Chapter Golf Tournament
The Chapter held its annual tournament at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, NC, with 83 golfers, and saw the winning team average a birdie per hole to take the title. The winning team of Scott Ferguson of Hefner Builders, Randy Dula and Gary Green of NEPTCO and Steve Spoon, Stafast scorched the course for an 18 under par score, of course taking advantage of the mulligans made available by the chapter tournament organizers.
